From sunrise to sunset, we are entranced by natural light and the atmosphere it creates. In turn, when it comes to lighting our homes, like moths to a flame we are drawn to the most natural of lighting effects. Candles are a given, but functionality plays an important part in everyday life. The type of lighting and its placement at home although a necessity, is a simple way, if not the most important way, to create ambience. Pendants, floor lamps, table lamps and desk lamps, here’s how to choose your perfect light.

Pendant

Use above dining tables, over kitchen islands or above bedsides. The pendants can save space and create a focus in your room. Landings, stairwells or high ceilings allow for multiples to be grouped together. Depending on the shade and the globe, create patterns on walls or use as a feature to marry decoration themes.

Table lamp

In a variety of shapes and sizes, use for your reading corner, bedside or to create softer lighting in your sitting room. Co-ordinate as pairs, or illuminate those darker places that pendant or built-in lighting can’t reach.

Floor lamp

Tricky corners or smaller spaces, a floor lamp will work wonders in lighting up your home. Ideal for your home office, or as a reading light over your favourite armchair. Curl up, switch on, tune out.
