Outdoor Materials
Whilst outdoors fabrics have been engineered to withstand the elements in a way that indoor fabrics are not, they are still susceptible to fading if exposed to strong sunlight on a regular basis and will also attract dirt. Both of these risks can be significantly mitigated and the lifespan extended by good care.
Olefin & Textiline
Everyday care:
Allow the frame and cushions to thoroughly dry out once wet as mould will develop if they remain damp. Wipe frame and cushion fabric regularly and as required with a clean, damp cloth to prevent dirt build-up. Wipe immediately if a spill occurs. Use a soft brush and mild detergent if needed. Rinse with cool water and remove any excess detergent. Do not use abrasive detergents, harsh chemicals or cleaners containing solvent.
Preventative treatment:
Sure Seal Rug & Carpet Protector or similar product will offer some protection against staining. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application voids your warranty. Keep cushions dry and under cover when not in use. To extend the life of the material, we recommend that the product be stored out of direct sun and rain when not in use. For storing over prolonged periods, we recommend storage in a dry and ventilated space.
Synthetic Ecolene wicker
Everyday care:
Use a mild soap and damp cloth to wipe the surface of the wicker every three months or as required. Use a soft nylon brush or low-pressure hose to clean in between the weaving.
Preventative treatment:
Allow to thoroughly dry out once wet as mould will develop if it remains damp.
Rope
Everyday care:
Wash with a non-foaming mild detergent twice a season or as required. Wipe the fibre with a damp cloth for everyday maintenance. Use a soft nylon brush or low-pressure hose to clean in between the weaving (outdoor furniture only)
Preventative treatment:
Use Sure Seal Rug & Carpet Protector or similar product. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application voids your warranty. Allow to thoroughly dry out once wet as mould will develop if it remains damp.
Powder coated aluminum
Everyday care:
Regularly, or as required, gently clean with water and a mild liquid detergent to remove any dirt or splashes. Wipe down with a soft microfibre cloth or sponge, and ensure the aluminium is dry to avoid water spots. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning agents. If in close proximity to the sea, rinse frequently to remove corrosive salt spray.
Preventative treatment:
Apply Sure Seal Tile and Grout sealer or similar. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application voids your warranty.
Frosted glass
Everyday care:
Regularly, or as required, gently clean with water and a mild liquid detergent to remove any dirt or splashes. Wipe down with a soft microfibre cloth or sponge, and ensure the glass is dry to avoid water spots. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning agents.
Preventative treatment:
Glass is naturally stain resistant, but can scratch as it is frosted. Use placemats and trivets to protect the surface.
Polypropylene
Everyday care:
Use a PH-neutral soap and water to clean the frame and seat. Treat spills and stains immediately with a damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents that are abrasive, caustic or acidic such as bleach or ammonia as they may affect the colour of the chair.
Preventative treatment:
Polypropylene is UV resistant, but in harsh sun will fade over time and may become brittle. Keep out of direct sunlight when not in use to avoid discolouration and prolong the life of the material.
Concrete / Stone Composite
Everyday care:
Each piece is finished with a paraffin wax or sealer, which provides a degree of protection against most day-to-day substances from penetrating the surface. However this wax layer is removed over time with cleaning so special care should be taken to avoid oil, red wine and pigment rich spills. Wipe spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners as they will remove the top layer of protection. Re-apply a protective layer of wax or similar product frequently. Use coasters, placemats, trivets etc to protect surface from stains, scratches and most importantly hot objects which can interact with the sealer layer and discolour it.
Preventative treatment:
Apply an even coat of paraffin wax/colourless wax every 6-8 months or as required, to maintain an adequate level of protection. Incorrect application of wax, sealers and cleaners voids your warranty. Sure Seal Grout, Tile & Stone Sealer or similar can also be used for extra protection. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application also voids your warranty.
Timbers
Wood is a porous material so avoid spills, particularly oils, red wine and pigment rich substances. Even condensation on the base of a glass can leave a ring mark that is difficult to remove. We recommend using placemats, coasters, trivets, tablecloths etc to help protect the surface. These also provide protection against scratches. Hot or cold objects can also affect the timber surface by interacting with the top layer of timber.
Oak, Acacia, Ash, Elm
Everyday care:
Wipe spills immediately. Regular cleaning and dusting will help keep timber in its best condition. A damp cloth and mild soap can be used as required. Do not use bleach, acidic cleaners, or abrasive cleaning products.
Preventative treatment:
Application of Sure Seal Timber Sealer or similar can create a barrier to avoid stains penetrating the top layers of the timber. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application voids your warranty. Re-apply every 4-6 months.
Teak
Everyday care:
Clean thoroughly once or twice a year or as required to remove accumulated dirt. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently wash the wood surface. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away debris and excess moisture if spills occur. Do not use metallic brushes, pressure cleaners or excessive force when cleaning. Do not use chemicals or abrasive cleaning products.
Preventative treatment:
Application of Sure Seal Timber Sealer or similar can prevent stains, for example oil or red wine, from penetrating deep into the timber, providing time to clean before permanent staining occurs. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application voids your warranty. Repeat every 6 months or as required.
If frequently exposed to sun, the colour of the timber will change to silver-grey as the pigments in the surface layers of the wood begin to fade. This is normal. If you wish to avoid this, the timber can be oiled periodically with a teak oil. Note that this will darken the colour of the timber.
Indoor materials
Marble
Everyday care:
Each piece is finished with a paraffin wax or sealer, which provides a degree of protection against most day-to-day substances from penetrating the surface. However this wax layer is removed over time with cleaning so special care should be taken to avoid oil, and pigment rich spills. Wipe spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
Preventative treatment:
Do not use abrasive cleaners as they will remove the top layer of protection. Re-apply a protective layer of wax or similar product frequently.
Use coasters, placemats & trivets to protect surface from stains, scratches and most importantly hot objects which can interact with the sealer layer and discolour the surface.
Avoid exposure to extreme conditions, such as heat sources or highly air-conditioned spaces. Apply an even coat of paraffin wax/colourless wax every six to eight or as required, to maintain an adequate level of protection.
Rattan
Everyday care:
Vacuum frequently and dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth. A soft-bristle brush or a soft damp cloth and mild detergent can be used periodically or as required, to remove build-up between the weaving. Do not saturate the rattan. Suitable for indoor use only.
Preventative treatment:
Preventative treatment: Avoid sharp objects such as zippers, buckles. Also avoid points of extreme strain in an area of the rattan that are not designed to take weight or stress - for example the back and sides of a chair. Do not stand on any woven rattan surface as it has not been designed and reinforced for this purpose. Injury could occur.
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Rattan is a natural material and it will become brittle and weaken when exposed to sunlight. This could cause the strands to break.
Paper cord
Everyday care:
Wipe clean with a tightly wrung soft cloth to remove any dust or dirt. It is not recommened to do this too often, as it can cause wear to the paper cord. Discolouration can occur if liquids are spilled on the yarn, so remove quickly to avoid staining.
Preventative treatment:
A cushion on the seat is recommened to prolong the life of the paper cord. Black dyed paper cord could transfer onto clothing if it comes in contact with body moisture, heat or liquid of any kind. Equally, coloured clothing or fabrics could stain the natural paper cord if comes in contact with moisture.
Being a natural material, humidity and daylight may change the colour of the paper cord and create natural patina.
Indoor fabric
Naturally dyed fabric, especially dark colours can be light sensitive, most particularly in case of pure linen fabrics. To avoid fading, close blinds and curtains to ensure the fabric is not exposed to direct or indirect sunlight through windows and/or skylights.
linen, cotton, blends
Everyday care:
Vacuum thoroughly on a weekly basis or as required, using low suction and a soft brush attachment. If a spill occurs, gently dab with a clean, damp cloth immediately. Warm water and a mild detergent can be used for stubborn stains. Do not use cleaners or cleaning agents that are abrasive, caustic or acidic. All removable covers are to be professionally dry cleaned only. To avoid slight colour variances, dry clean all covers at the same time. Regularly plump seat and back cushions thoroughly, most particularly in the case of feather filing, to keep the cushions aerated and the fibre and feathers evenly dispersed for maximum comfort.
Preventative treatment:
Providing a protective layer of fabric sealer can greatly prevent or reduce the severity of stains. Professional companies offer this service and we strongly recommend engaging their services. Sure Seal Rug and Carpet Protector or similar products can be used should you wish to personally apply this coating. Follow instructions on pack carefully as incorrect application voids your warranty.

Leather
Aniline is the softest of all leathers and if cared for well, improves over time. The soft, luxurious surface can easily scratch so avoid sharp items like shoe buckles and clothing zips.
Leather is sensitive to heat sources like air conditioning which dries out the natural oils in the leather, as well as to sunlight which can dry and fade the pigments in the leather. So consider placement carefully and avoid exposure to direct or indirect sunlight by closing blinds and curtains if necessary
Aniline
Everyday care:
Regularly dust with a dry cloth, or use a soft vacuum attachment. Avoid detergents and abrasive cleaning chemicals. If a spill occurs, dab immediately with a dry, soft, white cloth to absorb any liquid. This may be all that's required. If necessary, then dab the stain with a clean cloth first soaked in a mild soap solution of 3-5% and then firmly squeeze to remove excess water and soap. Do not soak the leather.
Preventative treatment:
Preventative treatment: A product such as Leather Protection Cream can be applied to protect the leather. This water-based layer works by placing an invisible, breathable barrier on the surface of the leather. It also helps to prevent soiling and protects your furniture from water, oil and alcohol-based stains. No product can provide 100% protection, but a leather cream can help prevent or diminish the impact of most soiling, and makes those stains that do occur easier to remove. Be sure to apply evenly so as not to darken the leather in patches.
Rugs
Our rugs are handwoven from natural fibres and therefore natural variations occur in both the fibres and weaving process. These variations are an intrinsic feature of our rugs. Some rugs may have a slight smell when first opened due to the natural oils in the wool. This will disappear soon after being aired. It is also natural for the rug to initially shed excess fibres. This will diminish with more frequent vacuuming. Use a rug underlay to protect your floor and prevent the rug from sliding. Rotating the rug by 180 degrees every six months will disperse heavy tracking areas more evenly.
Wool, synthetic, blends
Everyday care:
Vacuum thoroughly on a weekly basis or as required, to prevent a build up of dirt and dust in the fibres and to remove excess shedding. Use a suction-only vacuum head not a spinning brush head. If a spill occurs, immediately dab (not rub) with a clean, damp cloth. Warm water and a mild detergent can be used for stubborn stains. Do not use cleaners or cleaning agents that are abrasive, caustic or acidic. Have your rug professionally cleaned to remove heavy stains.
